SMITH James Ralph Smith, 78, of Uniontown, formerly of Confluence, died March 8, 1973, in Uniontown Hospital. Born Nov. 1, 1894, in Somerset County, he was a son of the late Albert and Catherine (Moon) Smith. Surviving are his wife, the former Bertha Rowan; children, Kenneth Smith of Confluence RD 1; Glenn of Two Harbor, Minn.; Carl of Pittsburgh; the Rev. Marion Smith of Indian Head; Mrs. George (Louise) Lephart of Beauford [sic], S.C.; Mrs. Dale (Marie) Tressler of Warren; Robert, also of Warren; Mrs. Charles (Evelyn Mae) Grafton of Cloquet, Minn.; Mrs. John (Clara Nae) Calvert of Xenia, Ohio; Donald of Two Harbors, Minn.; Virginia of Uniontown; Mrs. Ivan (Shirley) Uphold of Fontana, Calif.; and Ralph Jr. of Confluence; also 21 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bruce Smith of Acosta; Harvey, and a sister, Mrs. Charles Rose, both of Confluence RD 3. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Pearl Tannehill, in 1923; a son, Alvin, and a brother, Clyde. He was a miner and an employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Highways. Funeral service was held Monday afternoon in Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence, with Rev. J. Arnold Berg officiating. Interment in Jersey Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, March 15, 1973 [S2103]
