Spence, 89, of Meyersdale died Oct. 15, 1971 at Spear Convalescent Home in Markleysburg. He was born Jan. 2, 1882 in Crunty Fife, Scotland. Preceded in death by his father, Robert Spence; his mother, Janet Spence; and his wife, Sadie C. Swearman. Surviving are a son, Ralph of Meyersdale; these daughters: Mrs. Kathleen Kerrigan, Homestead; Mrs. Marguerite Austin, Kingwood, W.Va.; Mrs. Bernice Weimer, Meyersdale; a brother, Robert of Detroit, Mich. Spence was a former coal mining engineer. He was brought from Scotland by his parents at the age of nine months; in 1907, he returned to Scotland for further schooling in the minding industry. He was a former member of the Meyersdale Lions Club; a former past commander of the Knights of Malta and was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Meyersdale.
