  SPENCE
  
    David R. Spence, 89, of Meyersdale died Oct. 15, 1971 at Spear
  Convalescent Home in Markleysburg.  He was born Jan. 2, 1882 in
  Crunty Fife, Scotland.  Preceded in death by his father, Robert
  Spence; his mother, Janet Spence; and his wife, Sadie C. Swearman. 
  Surviving are a son, Ralph of Meyersdale; these daughters:  Mrs.
  Kathleen Kerrigan, Homestead; Mrs. Marguerite Austin, Kingwood,
  W.Va.; Mrs. Bernice Weimer, Meyersdale; a brother, Robert of Detroit,
  Mich.  Spence was a former coal mining engineer.  He was brought from
  Scotland by his parents at the age of nine months; in 1907, he
  returned to Scotland for further schooling in the minding industry. 
  He was a former member of the Meyersdale Lions Club; a former past
  commander of the Knights of Malta and was a member of the Zion
  Evangelical Lutheran Church, Meyersdale.
