STURTZ Melvin Layman Sturtz, 83, Winchester Road, Cumberland, Md., died Friday June 1, 1990 at Lions Manor Nursing Home where he had been a patient four years. Born Sept. 8, 1906, in Wellersburg, he was the son of the late Josphi and Lillie May (Geary) Sturtz. He was a former employee of the Celanese Fibers Corp.; and was retired from the Memorial Hospital maintenance department. He was a member of Cresaptown Eagles Aerie 2883; Memorial Hospital Ten-Pin Bowling League; Mixed Bowling League at The Bowler; Senior Citizens Bowling League and Wellersburg Senior Citizens. Surviving are his widow, A. Fern (Murray) Sturtz; one son, Wayne Sturtz, Winchester, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis J. Huffman, Callan, Fla.; and Diane S. Sturtz, Portland, Ore; one brother, Daniel Sturtz, Wellersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Dryer, Mount Savage, Md.; and Mrs. Erma Robinette, Wellersburg; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, Md., where services were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. William Davis. Interment, Cooks' Cemetery, Wellersburg.
