TROUTMAN One Killed in Sunday Evening Auto Accident Ray Troutman Has Jugular Vein Severed in Head-on Collision Ray L. Troutman, a 17-year-old youth of Kennells Mills, in Fairhope Township, was fatally injured in an automobile accident, Sunday evening, on Route 131, between Fairhope and Hyndman. Three others suffered painful lacerations and bruises, and young Troutman died only a few minutes after the collision. The accident occurred early Sunday evening when a car driven by John Albright, 23, of Hyndman, going in the direction of Fairhope, crashed head-on with a car driven by Oliver Emerick, traveling in the opposite direction. The cars collided at a bend in the road about 500 feet from the Somerset-Bedford County line. Young Troutman was a passenger in the front seat of the Albright car. He was thrown through the shattered windshield of the car. His throat was cut from ear to ear, severing the jugular vein, resulting in almost instant death. Homer Troutman, 12, a brother of the dead youth was riding in the rear seat of the same car and suffered injuries to the left leg and lacerations about the face and head. Young Troutman and John Albright, the driver of the car, were taken to the Memorial Hospital in Cumberland to have their wounds dressed. Albright had severe face and head lacerations. Ralph Shaffer of Fairhope, in the automobile with Emerick, received a laceration of the chin and neck bruises. He received dispensary treatment. A third occupant of the Emerick car escaped without injuries. State Motor Police from the Somerset substation and Coroner F. E. Sass of Boswell conducted an investigation immediately following the accident and it was announced an inquest will be held later in the week. Ray L. Troutman was a son of Lawson and Katie (Schroyer) Troutman. His father preceded in death. Surviving are his mother and these brothers and sisters: Floyd, Carl, Homer, Robert, Betty, Idella and Lois Troutman, and Mrs. Marie Lowery. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, at the Comps Church by Rev. Bittner. Interment in the church cemetery under the direction of Harvey Zeigler, Hyndman mortician.
