Train Joseph Tursick, 52, of Jenners No. 2 committed suicide Tuesday afternoon by throwing himself under the wheels of a Baltimore & Ohio Railroad coal train on a siding at the Consolidation Coal Company mine at Jenners No. 2. Tursick was killed instantly, his chest, head and abdomen being crushed. Motive for the man's act could not be determined by Dr. F. E. Sass, coroner of Somerset County, who conducted an investigation. The coroner learned that Tursick had assisted in packing the furnishings of his home and was preparing to leave for New York to join his wife and children, who had gone to that city several weeks ago in search of employment. Dr. Sass said a Baltimore & Ohio engine was pushing several empty railroad coal cars onto the siding and that W. F. Goss, a brakeman on the train, was on the rear car of the train. Goss told the coroner he noticed Tursick standing about eight feet from the tracks as the cars approached. Suddenly, Goss said, Tursick leaped into the path of the first car. Goss immediately applied the emergency brakes on the train and the cars stopped after two of the steel hoppers had passed over Tursick's body. The remains were removed to the Joseph Hoffman Funeral Home in Boswell. Meyersdale Republican, September 4, 1941
