Varney Jr., 78, of Jennerstown died May 28, 1994, at Somerset Hospital. Born March 31, 1916, in Jenners. Son of Andrew D. Sr. and Julia (Tobias) Varney. Preceded in death by parents and brother, William Frederick Varney. Survived by wife, Frances Sladek, and these children: William F., married to Rita Krause of Fredericksburg, Va.; Rose Ann Allen of Klute, Texas, and Andrew D., married to Sandra Weible of Ligonier, and these grandchildren: Michelle, Melissa, Heather, Scott and Emily. Brother of Betty Ann, wife of B. J. Maurer Jr. of Boswell. Member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Boswell, and Jennerstown Volunteer Fire Department. Army Veteran of World War II where he served with the 29th Division, 116th Infantry Regiment. Survivor of the first assault at Omaha Beach, Normandy invasion. Also recipient of the Bronze Star. Retired auto body technician. Observed 47th wedding anniversary on Nov. 15, 1993. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where wake service will be held Tuesday.
