Walker Laid to Rest Hundreds of people from Somerset and vicinity paid their last respects to the late Jacob J. Walker, for 41 years court stenographer of Somerset County, whose funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 4, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. D. Roy of Somerset. The pallbearers were members of the Somerset County Bar - A. M. Matthews, P. G. Cober, Henry H. Gress, Thomas F. Lansberry, Frank Orban and Paul E. C. Fike. All county officers, including Norman T. Boose and members of the bar, attended the services at the Roy home and were included in the funeral cortege to the Walker Cemetery in Shanksville, where the remains were laid to rest. The veteran court stenographer died at the age of 71, at the home of his daughter where he resided, Thursday afternoon, Oct. 28, following a cerebral hemorrhage, which he suffered a week previously. Mr. Walker had been in ill health for several months but recently was able to return to his work. A son of Josiah and Sara (Larmon) Walker, he was born in Shanksville, Nov. 23, 1871. A brother, Joseph Walker, a retired Shanksville farmer, died Tuesday, Oct. 26. Mr. Walker was employed in the law offices of Kooser & Kooser prior to his appointment as court stenographer, 41 years ago. He also served for 18 years as secretary of the Somerset School Board. Mr. Walker was twice married. His first wife Mabel (Brant) Walker, died 10 years ago. Surviving are his second wife, Hilda (Fleegie) Walker, and four children born to the first wife - Mrs. Robert Roy and Jacob J. Jr., both of Somerset; Mrs. Marguerite Price, manager of the Y.M.C.A. dining room in Johnstown, and Mrs. J. P. Cleaver, Johnstown, R.D. 7. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, a brother, Lewis Walker, Shanksville, and two sisters - Mrs. Eliza Croner, and Mrs. Catherine Lowery, Shanksville. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. I. Hess Wagner, D.D., pastor of the United Brethren Church. Meyersdale Republican, November 4, 1943
