"Mac" Wasson, 86, of Champion, died Jan. 7, 2002 at his home. Born Nov. 29, 1915 in Monessen, a son of the late William A. and Elsie (Switzer) Wasson. Survived by his wife, Irma B. (Pritts) Wasson, with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary June 4, 2001; four children, Charlene Surber and her husband, Larry, of Champion, Dorothy Sprague of Champion, Robert Lee Wasson and wife, Jane of Friedens, and Amy Carlson and husband, Brent of Gold Beach, Ore.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Glenn Wasson of Pittsburgh. "Mac" began teaching in a one-room school (Longwood) in 1937. He was married on June 4, 1941, and drafted into the Army Engineers on June 27, 1941. He shipped overseas in September 1941 and received medals for the Pacific Theatre, the Okinawa campaign and the Congressional Survivor of Pearl Harbor Award. He became an assistant to the superintendent for Connellsville Area School District, where he remained until retirement in 1977. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home Inc., Route 711, Melcroft, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Dennis Arndt officiating. Interment in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, with military rites conducted at the graveside. Memorial contributions may be made to the C.N.
