WITT William George Witt, 78, a former resident of Meyersdale, died Wednesday at the home of his son, George Witt of Gibsonia, Pa. Mr. Witt was a school teacher in Somerset County for 35 years, and also served a number of years as superintendent of a coal mine near Meyersdale. His wife, the former Mary (Ringler) Witt, died 35 years ago. Surviving are seven children: Clarence, San Francisco, Cal.; John, Akron, O.; Tech. Sgt. James, with the Army in Italy; Florence, a missionary serving in this country; George, mentioned; Martha and Charles, both of Johnstown. He was a brother of George and Silas, both of Meyersdale. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at Allison Park, Pa., after which Mr. Witt will be removed to the W. C. Price & Son Funeral Home here, where services will be held at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Interment will be in the Coal Run Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, October 26, 1944
