John Leslie Shaffer, 75, of 215 Hillview Ave., Latrobe, died in Latrobe Area
Hospital Wednesday morning. He was born in DuBois, Pa., March 5, 1903, son of
the late John Henry and Delila (Bell) Shaffer. Formerly employed by Alco
Products Inc., he was a member of the Church of God in Youngstown. Surviving are
his widow, Gerda (Christenson) Shaffer; five sons: Robert L., of Latrobe, John
I., of Forsetville, Md., Master Sgt. Thomas E., of Miami, Fla., Ronald E. of
Oxen Hill, Md., and Staff Sgt. Kenneth D. of Williams Air Force Base, Ariz.; 14
grandchildren; one great-grandson, and one sister, Mrs. Velma Garvin of Sarver,
Pa. Family will receive friends in Richard W. Dell Home for Funerals, Latrobe,
from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services
will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Friday with Bishop
Samuel Kramer, pastor of the Church of God, officiating. Interment will follow
in Blairsville Cemetery.
